Steve Schroeder
Steve Schroeder grew up on a farm in southern Minnesota, where his family raised corn, beans, oats, alfalfa, and cattle. He met his wife, Doris—who is originally from the Great Falls area—while living in suburban Minneapolis. On their first visit to Montana together, Steve fell in love with the state, and they promised each other they would make Montana home as soon as the opportunity arose. That opportunity came in 1999, when Steve was promoted to lead sales across Western North America, allowing the family to relocate while he traveled extensively for work. After considering Bozeman, Missoula, and Helena, they chose Helena for its charm, character, friendly people, and the exceptional quality of life it offered for raising a family.
Steve and Doris have four daughters, three sons-in-law, and nine grandchildren. Family time is central to their lives, whether gathering close to home or visiting children who live in Helena, Cascade, Belgrade, and Tampa. They live on a small hobby farm east of town, where they raise cattle, sheep, pigs, ducks, chickens, horses, and a few well-loved dogs and cats, along with maintaining a large garden. In their free time, they enjoy spending summers at the lake cabin and taking full advantage of Montana’s outdoor recreation, including hiking, boating, skiing, hunting, and fishing.
Steve retired in April 2025 after a 41-year career in healthcare technology, including med-tech and medical software sales leadership. His most recent role was Executive Vice President of Sales for Fivos, Inc., where he worked with medical device manufacturers on data analysis and regulatory projects supporting vascular and neurovascular devices. Earlier in his career, Steve served as Vice President of Strategic Accounts for Varian, where he played a role in bringing enhanced radiation therapy technology to Helena through the installation of the Varian TruBeam linear accelerator at St. Peter’s Health. While not a caregiver himself, Steve has found deep fulfillment in supporting the frontline healthcare professionals who rely on advanced technology to provide exceptional patient care.
Steve was motivated to join the St. Peter’s Health Foundation Board after conversations with Kari Koehler during the radiation therapy project. Recognizing the importance of a strong regional health system—and the challenges St. Peter’s was navigating at the time—Steve felt called to be part of the solution. He is proud of the strength and focus the Foundation has today under Stephen Mason’s leadership and vision.
In addition to his Foundation service, Steve has been a member of the Narrate Church Council for more than 10 years, participates in Narrate’s community “Scattering” events, and volunteers with Special Olympics Montana. He is particularly passionate about the growing focus on mental health services and community support at St. Peter’s Health, and believes strongly in contributing to a healthier future for Helena through collaboration, service, and leadership.
