Karrie's HATS ON! The Fairbrother Family Skin Cancer Prevention Project
Protecting Montana children and families through sun safety education, prevention resources
and lifelong healthy habits.
Building Lifelong Sun Safety Habits for Montana Families
For many Montana families, time outdoors is part of everyday life. From the first days of childhood, sun exposure begins early, and over time, that exposure can increase the risk of skin cancer.
Karrie’s HATS ON! Fairbrother Family Fund at St. Peter’s Health helps families build simple sun safety habits from the start. Through protective hats, parent education, sunscreen access and community resources, this initiative supports prevention today while helping reduce skin cancer risk for the future.
The fund was created by Karrie Fairbrother, a veteran nurse of 54 years and dedicated sun protection educator. After losing her husband, Gary Fairbrother, DDS, to metastatic melanoma at age 45, Karrie committed her life to skin cancer prevention, early detection and family education.
Your gift helps provide sun protective hats for newborns and children, education for parents and caregivers, sunscreen access and prevention focused resources throughout the community.

Over the past year, this program has already made an impact, supporting 263 newborns and young children with sun protective hats and skin cancer prevention resources.
