Stephen Mason

Stephen Mason serves as the Executive Vice President of the St. Peter’s Health Foundation and is a member of the St. Peter’s Health executive leadership team.  Stephen and his five member Foundation team are responsible for all private fundraising and public grant efforts with a combined $9M goal in FY27.

 

Prior to joining St. Peter’s Health in July 2020, Stephen served as the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy for the Oklahoma State University Foundation and was directly responsible for a 37 member major gift teams.  During his nine-year OSU tenure, Stephen personally facilitated more than $71M in private philanthropy in support of five campus and system presidents and 36,000 students, including the Center for Health Sciences. His direct-report teams facilitated an additional $125M.

 

From February 2000 to October 2011, Stephen helped create and served as the inaugural Executive Director of the Saint Simeon’s Foundation supporting a 200 resident, private-pay senior living community in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  Stephen developed the Society of Saint Simeon’s planned giving program along with leading the annual giving, major gifts, capital campaign, event and volunteer programs.  From 2007 to 2010, Stephen planned and spear-headed a $23.1M capital campaign with an original $17.3M goal. 

 

To date, Stephen has personally facilitated more than $131M in philanthropic and government grants with his teams facilitating an additional $140M. 

 

Upon receiving his master’s degree from Oklahoma State University, Stephen worked 13 years for Tulsa Transit serving as the VP of Operational Services the last six years.  Responsibilities included leading the union driver and mechanic operations, human resources, transportation planning, accounting, grants, and marketing and communications.  Stephen led the efforts to implement new services and equipment modifications to meet American Disabilities Act requirements. This included creating transportation advisory committees comprised of persons with disabilities and the aging. 

 

Stephen received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Oklahoma State University where he met his wife Lorna who retired after a 33-year nursing career.  Stephen received the National Planned Giving Institute certification from the College of William and Mary.  Stephen and Lorna enjoy six adult children and eight grandchildren.  Hiking is a shared passion with Lorna traveling across Montana as a wildlife and landscape photographer. Stephen and Lorna love Montana and the Helena community!
