Ashley Carpenter & Skye Dahl - North Clinic
Ashley Carpenter and Skye Dahl have been best friends since middle school. They were two kids who clicked instantly, and all these years later, they’re still side by side, working together at St. Peter’s Health North Clinic.
This past year has been one of the hardest years the friends have faced. After losing her mom to brain cancer, Ashley thought she knew how unexpectedly life can change. Last year, she was diagnosed with liver disease. The diagnosis came fast, and the cause is still a mystery. Countless appointments followed, including trips to the University of Utah for specialty care.
The impact on Ashley’s life was heavy, and the financial strain quickly became overwhelming. That’s when she turned to the Employee Assistance Fund. The fund helped cover travel expenses and lodging, and more importantly, it gave Ashley one less thing to worry about so she could focus on her health.
Skye found it scary to watch her best friend go through this. They’ve been each other’s support through the highs and lows of life, and she had to do something. Skye got tested to see if she could be a donor.
When we got the news—I was a match—I cannot express how relieved I was
Knowing that when the time comes for Ashley’s transplant, they have a plan; they do not have to wait and hope that a different match will come along; they can go for it.
Traveling to Salt Lake wasn’t easy, and that’s when Skye also applied for help from the Employee Assistance Fund. Skye could travel to meet the specialist managing Ashley’s care thanks to that financial support. While the transplant isn’t needed yet, when it is, Skye will be giving Ashley part of her liver. She says it’s the least she can do for someone who means so much to her.
This journey has tested us in ways we never expected. But it also reminded us how deeply St. Peter’s Health employees care. The Employee Assistance Fund helped us through these tough moments.
To everyone who has donated, thank you. Your generosity isn’t just dollars; it’s hope, friendship, and healing.
